This week, journalists chortled over tronc’s “deadly swarm of buzzwords,” watched the U.S. Congress livestream over Periscope and traded tips and tools after a record-setting IRE conference. Let’s see what hacks and hackers are getting up to next week.
But first, consider taking a minute to answer OpenNews’s survey on how they can help journalists and technologists better expand their networks and collaborate. Knight and Mozilla partner with a lot of Hacks/Hackers folks, and dedicate a lot of time and money to making these kinds of projects accessible to hacks and hackers across the world.

Welcome to the weekend, hacks and hackers. The media world, and the rest of the world, was rocked by news of the largest mass shooting in U.S. history. Poynter wrote an article on how the Orlando Sentinel, which has had two-thirds of its staff cut over the years, covered one of the most intense and devastating events in its history. The New York Times made an animated presentation of how its design and publication of the news changed as the story evolved.
