Announcing new Connect events in SF, London & NYC

After a few months spent toiling in the Hacks/Hackers laboratory, we’re back and happy to announce the details for Connect events in San Francisco, London, and NYC. Hold the date The San Francisco event will take place on the weekend of January 22 at the startup co-working space Runway, followed by events in London on the weekend of February 5 at Rainmaking Loft, and New York City on the weekend of February 26 at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.

Happy Wednesday! Watch for news soon from Hacks/Hackers about the next Connect events in New York, San Francisco and London. In Los Angeles, the chapter will hear about three projects during a Show and Tell with the L,A, Times Data Desk. In Lima, Hacks/Hackers chats with the Electronic Frontier Foundation about defending digital privacy.

A wonderful moment happened last week: Hacks/Hackers folks from all over the world met up in London at MozFest to brainstorm the future of Hacks/Hackers. They chatted about how they what Hacks/Hackers mission, structure and activities could look like in 2017. In *Vancouver*, the local chapter is meeting up for a social event, to commiserate about the seasons changing (and relax now that the national election is complete).

All around the world last week, Hacks/Hackers chapters met on topics as varied as web scraping in Python to net neutrality to new storytelling techniques at Zeit Online. In New York City, a panel of four professor/journalists talked about the joys and challenges of teaching data + journalism. Last week Hacks/Hackers chapters around the world tackled a ton of great topics: developer newsroom culture, chat apps, experimental video approaches, interactive news web apps in Angular and so much more. On a personal note, it was wonderful to meet some Hacks/Hackers organizers at the Online News Association conference in Los Angeles last week. I hope to find more chances to meet Hacks/Hackers organizers and members face-to-face. Y’all are a good group of folks.
